What a bonded warehouse is for
A bonded warehouse allows imported non-Union goods to be stored without releasing them into free circulation straight away. Import duties only fall due when the goods are actually removed and released for free circulation.
For importers that means in practice: the goods can already sit in Germany and be available at short notice, while the duty burden stays decoupled in time. If the goods are re-exported, it does not arise at all.
Why Bobzin
The Bobzin site combines the bonded warehouse option with everything needed around it: 6,600 m² of storage in five halls, container ramps, electric and diesel forklifts, a truck scale directly on the premises and – where admissible – the storage of water-hazardous substances within the WGK approval.
Then there is the location: around 75 kilometres to the Port of Hamburg via the A24. Goods do not have to stand in the expensive port environment, yet stay within a day's reach.

The Bobzin site holds a WGK approval. Whether a specific substance can be stored is assessed on the basis of the safety data sheet and available capacity.
